My expensive walking poles have got plastic end caps which aren't wearing very well (unsurprisingly). So to the lathe, and some aluminium replacements with stainless screws in the end to provide a bit wear resistance.

They can sit in the cupboard until the plastic ones give up the ghost, then I'll swap them over. Of course if I had a 3d printer I could have just printed some new ones.

Doesn't it have titanium studs in the end when you take off the plastic caps?

No, they're stuck on. I have got another set with studs and different ends you can swap in, as you say. Bit of a poor design on this set though, I my opinion.

I've seen people walking past my house with sticks but wonder what they actually do, is it easier or faster than without?

If the ground is rough, slippy, boggy or cars get too close if you have to walk along the road then sticks are useful. Otherwise for me they are a bit of a pita.
