Well 4 but I presume you are meaning the bit up the stairs. Yes one piece, just under 3m long.

Also did this over the weekend, ripped out the old bannister etc from stairs and landing, this was part way through.

Ha ha not the same ones, they were made by my granddad about 45 years ago then he fell out with my dad so the ones for upstairs were never done

Forkardt chuck wouldn't tighten today so stripped it down to see if I could work out the problem.
Think I found the issue.

They can be bought but with the master sliding part and not even going to ask how much as I know how much new Forkardt chucks sell for

They are hardened and I can't do that but I reckon a mild steel one should last me long enough so made two up, one pictured below alongside the original.

Other one is in the chuck which is now back in action

I believe so, were yours rivetted with homemade steel rivets made by using an old black and decker drill clamped to the bench and a file? If so then yes, would have been him.

Yes, I had a length of 20x20x3 angle on the shelf and a few off cuts of 20mm Tee section, size was determined by the ply our local diy shed stocks, I can’t cut wood…
