A milling cutter with shorter flutes would make a big difference.

I do have some shorter 2mm carbide cutters. Would there be any advantage doing 2mm first then opening up to 3mm with these? I suspect it would be worse.
@Pete. suggested something like that to me. He reckoned a 3mm diameter cutter might cut the 3mm wide slot oversize.
I still can't see how mind...![]()
The spring position looks correct to me. The mounting bracket is usually about an inch higher, just under the upper flange of the spring, but overall, it's correct. I've seen a couple of leg vises/vices with a different spring arrangement, but those seem to be much less common. Old catalogues show the spring the way you have it, and it works perfectly that way on my Peter Wright blacksmith leg vise. Here's a link to mine and the stand that I made for it:The spring issue is sorted, someone was saying it was back to front?
Have both, quite close too, but I am forbidden from entering any supermarket at the moment, I just buy everything in sight, my appetite is out of control.
Looks fancy but won't it just topple/twist when it's being used? Or is it a work of art?
I hope you glued the dividers in, knowing my luck they'd move and be mixed without me even opening the damn drawer!
So the slot drill would cut to size if your setup was better and your machine correctly adjusted. Or have I misunderstood?A slot drill very seldom cuts to size. If it’s new and sharp it invariably pulls slightly to the one side if you have the slightest amount of play or instability in your set up.
I've been doing the same with my Dad's collection of random old fasteners. He had all sorts of tubs, boxes and tins with all sorts of nails, screws and the like, but absolutely no pattern to what was in each one. I enjoy sorting stuff out, though, and I'm not in a rush. Lots of "oh, that's where that went to" moments. Finally some Order was made in the drawer...

Some people gamble in the casino, others in the shop...I hope you glued the dividers in, knowing my luck they'd move and be mixed without me even opening the damn drawer!
