I looked at buying the plans for that kit. I didn't get them but instead I bought an old mobility scooter and old land rover indicators, mdf and a few other things. I even measured up a coin ride on postman pat van (that was the plan for the design) but since its already been three years it's changed to a Land Rover.

My fault. I keep telling myself I need a new shed and I'll build it with him in that, :/

They're only young once. My lad reckons I did do lots with him when he was little but I think I could have done so much more and passed on lots of practical skills if I'd have had a decent, warm, all weather workshop. He might I reckon even have gone into engineering rather than computer science.

People say they spend more time with their grandkids and I can see how..... now.

Someone I worked with many years ago had one. There was a lever on the floor, push it forwards & it went forward, pull it back & it went back. It went just as fast back wards as forwards, which was not very fast at all! Very slow off the line with the small engine & a centrifugal clutch. As KF said, fantastic on snow

My colleague had one, not through choice I would think, but because he had lost a leg in a motorcycle accident, his insurance insisted on automatic & in those days it was about the only small auto available.

More obscure info.. The Volvo take over of Daf left them with a new model, but they didn't want to continue with the rubber bands, so, as the engine was a Renault, they put a FWD Renault box in the back. Bit like the Porsche 924/944, where the Audi box still had the lugs to attach to the bell housing.

Just checked and it was the 300 series, but they did sell them the variomatic alongside the transaxle models.

TFFT, last of the 6 cutlass bearings done(and yes that is the way to spell according to the manufacturer of the last 4 )
This one turned out to be the best of the lot, only 3 different dimensions over the 200mm length and no tapers at all original was 70mm dia and I had to take down to 66.8 then 66.7 then lastly 66.55mm

Had two from a different place but they were poor quality and didn't have enough meat on the brass especially as there was a 0.7mm thickness variance on the wall, so anyone needing cutlass bearings for their boat I recommend Exalto as they were very nice to machine and the OD was perfectly true to the inner rubber.

Normally with steel tubes, as this is, you would have either GRP or Phenolic outers but for some reason this one is brass so that is the way the MCA want it to stay.
Phenolic is not great, it doesn't seem to last, also it swells in water so you have to have it relatively slack to allow for that.
GRP is good but not nice to machine as the dust coming off is not good to breath in and it is quite abrasive for the lathe.

Bit like my Austin Champ. Five gear box with a F-N-R separate lever. I believe that the reverse was slightly higher geared, so technically could be faster backwards. Since I managed over 90mph with the screen down, going forwards, the max reverse was not an area I intended to explore to the limit. Daft back then, but not THAT daft. Bought it for £45 out of a farmers field, then to the SOF and back to recover a boat. Around 9 or 10 MPG...

Incidentally, diesel has dropped to under €2, but I expect that is temporary. ( 1£ = €1.17)
As for 'made today', rolled 6 bits of T section to curves as part of a terrace shade area. Cover will be polycarb sheets bent over. Better get a move on, as fitting Thursday..

The top and bottom bits are the cast iron keel of a 20ft sailing boat I am fixing up. The piece on the left is the steel centre plate that lived in a slot in the centre of the keel.
It was so badly corroded, that I cut out one side of the cast keel to get the plate out. Now de-rusting it all prior to putting it back together for a May launch. Rest of the boat is so-so, except the sails are very tatty/ripped/rotten. Found some bigger others that I can recut. Won't be fancy, but bit of cheap fun round the islands here.

The pivot for the plate was a 'plastic' 32mm rod that relayed on a bit of water expansion to stay in place. Nylon?
The French website that is popular with other owners is a bit stunned at this effort. Nobody else has hads to deal with such an extreme case.

Has a good rep, as the first smaller boat to get 'semi high seas' rating. The one in the spec is the fin keeled version, 'mine' is the shallow keel with plate. Waters about here are often a bit shallow, so a better bet. French friend bought it several years ago. He has trouble figgering which end of a hammer is the heavy one. So I relented and took it over for a half share. Plus, is that he has an oyster shack on one of the Estuarys with a free mooring.

Reached 25 hours on the bucket , started to weld Today .
Another oxygen bottle is gone
An argon CO2 bottle had to be replaced as well
I don't want to see the bucket on Wednesday.
Tomorrow will be the day even if I have to stay there till I finish it.
Repaired an angle grinder and mixer drill on yesterday evening.
Today I should have work on another one and replace 2 ball bearings on two grinders but I'm really tired.

Prior to this I'd gotten the gearing wrong, really wrong. I put him in it and hung a 45A cooker switch off the back. I hit the switch and the thing took off with him in it, no steering or brakes. Too fast for me to catch it nearly and with SWMBO screaming at me. He loved it mind!

Finished of that interceptor today, 40ton manhole cover and grate, yards a loose surface so I bedded some 30mm 8x4 road plates onto some wet concrete, should help keep some of the loose surface getting into the bottle gulley.
