Daughter and her other half are off on their holibobs, so a chance to give her 106 a service.
While I was in there* I thought I'd fit the new valve cover gasket I bought ages ago, as it's weeping a bit.
The cover was quite badly rusted so it got attacked with a knotted wire wheel.

Oh dear.

It turns out it wasn't the gasket after all.
So the options seem to be:
1. Buy a new cover. The ones on eBay are rustier than mine judging by the photos. AliExpress do a brand new one for less than I paid for the gasket
but I can't wait that long.
2. Weld it up. My TIG skills aren't really up to it, plus the mating face would probably distort.
3. Slather it with filler. I didn't trust Isopon P38 not to crumble to bits with the heat, so JB Weld it is. There was just enough left in the tube.
Left to set. We'll see how it looks tomorrow.
