Just knocked the valve on one of my air drops whilst disconnecting something, with my arm positioned such that the grit on my overall cuffs was blasted into my wrist at great speed.

I think I may need to either fit claw blanking plugs, or add some kind of valve restraint.

Having identified this as a problem and then ordering a replacement,

I turned my attention to the motor which, for some reason, refused to turn.

No surprise there, then. How it had been run enough to chew a groove in the ferrite magnet I can't imagine
It must have made one hell of a racket.

That will clean up with wd40

All looks absolutely fine. just replace all the parts with a complete new assembly and it will be good to go

I thought my Mitutoyo micrometer had packed up. Tried a brand new RS Pro Silver cell and nothing.

Thought i'd quickly try the panasonic out of the vernier. Works fine.

The other battery in another micrometer, also RS pro has also died well before its time.

So avoid RS components batteries - they're crap.

Last week my wife's 2012 Hyundai I30 failed to crank after being started 5 times earlier in the day. The starter has never been noisy or given any warning sign's. Luckily I had arranged to meet her at the library car park, a short walk from the school after collecting one of the grand kids. It started straight away after me pushing it for a bump start on the tiny carpark. I removed the starter and opened it up. I was surprised that it lasted as long as it did looking at the state of it inside.
