So
Following on from the mystery tool thread, thanks for comments by the way.
I was originally minded to leave the last 3 studs in place, as they were at-least functional and undamaged and i should have been able to re-install the exhaust with the new gaskets and studs
But. After more reading - reviews and stuff esp on machine mart, decided to go ahead and get the laser 3986 impact stud extractor from my local halfords at lakeside, i at least was able to use a 10%discount from one of my memberships.
I did get the 1st one out, though felt it was touch and go before finally twisting out the stud. 1-0.
2nd one....stud snapped, 1-1
3rd one......stud snapped,
3rd one, managed a 2nd bite but snapped again, a thread or so in the head. 2-1
2nd one, couldn't get a bite on it.
Decided to try and carefully drill out, managed to get through the stud, but then also, managed to break into the cooling jacket.
So an exersize achieved in murdering an almost perfectly good motorbike.
Also, the exhaust gaskets didn't quite fit over, and i damaged a couple slightly yesterday. I used my 1-5/8" pipe-expanders just to clean them up and get them over, one of them snapped too.
Almost a day and a half wasted, i might as well have just worked the weekend like most others lately.
Bit miffed
Options with bike now...
i've blown it as a decent trade-in to a gorgeous zx10r in brentwood. (That i looked at yesterday)
Will have to get in touch with my bike mechanic and somehow get bike down there. Also considering sell as-is to try and cut my losses.
Phil
