Stuck on the motorway...

Sending 8 ambulances to 2 cars is rather a waste when they are in such short supply.
I am not against closing a motorway if they are cutting people out of cars and treating them. But no need to close it for so many hours afterwards. It can cause serious knock on effects for many people. It also causes congestion on other roads which will only add delays for ambulances operating elsewhere.

I wish life was as simple as you wished it to be.

It could be a crime scene, therefore they have to follow all reasonable lines of enquiry

They only get one shot at it as all the evidence is lost once the road is opened

I remember when 20 years ago I was involved in a potential fatal accident, the police accident investigation team cleared me within 5 mins. of arriving and doing a quick visual investigation.
The road was closed for 4 hours as everything had to be measured and recorded - in case of a civil claim against me or my employer.

Yes I was thankfull, however there was never a need for so many. I was fully awake during the calls to 999. At no time did they state more than one injured. So why 3 turned up?

On the flip side people have been under the impression of being fine to then be moved unknowing they have a broken back

That is true.
A mate of mine had his artic overturn during a gale. He kicked the windscreen out - walked about 20 feet and collapsed. Still walks with crutches

It's due to type of injuries or location, if you're the wrong side of a hedge, down a bank etc. it's going to need manpower (or should it be people power theses day?) to extract a casualty, if your injuries warranted it the air ambulance would be sent as it carries more skills and kit than a road ambulance.

never mind the idiots taking photos of the scene or video from there phones

as goes for many drivers they cause more jams and road blockages on most roads

theres many that dont check the road status they are the ones that cause loads of bottle necks on most roads you and i both know that @fizzy

as goes for the filter road police issue then the should have a road co ordinator to get traffic moving more off the motorway

Many times a first responder and an ambulance will be sent to an RTC, they are supposed to be able to arrive more quickly and start treatment without waiting for the ambulance. Or as said, manpower. Or there are 2 at a similar distance… if both are sat idle then why not send both? 1 can always be diverted if there’s another call?

There’s any number of reasons why more than 1 could turn up.

I remember getting stuck on the M25 for an hour a few years back, on the way to the airport, flying back to the far east. After crawling along for an hour, we got to the accident, motorcycle with it front end snapped completely off, all lanes stopped by cops......

... on the OPPOSITE side of the motorway! Our side was only slowing down to have a good gawp at it!

There’s any number of reasons why more than 1 could turn up.

It used to be that 2 ambulances were sent to a serious crash site just in case the first broke down, had a blue light accident on route or the injured needed treatment at different hospitals.

Everyone was OK in the end but I know someone who was a driver involved in a rta again a number of years ago now. They were unconscious at the time and bundled into an ambulance, came round on a bed in the ambulance to see paramedics frantically working on another patient, had a hairy kicking off fit cause they thought they had killed someone. So suppose multiple ambulances would save that situation.

An air ambulances carry trauma Doctors (more fully equipped), as opposed to Paramedics in a road ambulance.
Also, not all areas have or are suitable geographically for rapid response units with Doctors on board.

I finally got clear of this at 11.30 this morning, 4.5 hours stuck
Some people were milling about right next to the central reservation 3 feet from cars going past at 80mph and others dodging the tossers that thought they were more important than anyone else driving down the hard shoulder, a bit dodgy to say the least!
A helicopter went past slow and low probably watching all of this then about 20 minutes later the road was opened. I wonder if they report what was going on and told them to get the bloody road open now!
The scene of the accident? I couldn't tell where it was all lanes were open with no cones out etc except a broken down coach. So from nearly 5 hours of queueing to a fully open road, surely the road could have been opened much sooner.
