I could just unbolt it I suppose - chuck is rather stiff and I need to take it apart.My Cincinatti dividing head is the same as yours, and the backplate on mine didn't respond to hitting either. But I found a chuck that went straight onto the register on the backplate, so happy days. There is a taper in the shaft - some Smart and Brown I believe? The thread on the nose is some rare thing as well - are you sure you want to remove the chuck?
Edit to add - chucks normally bolted to a backplate? If you are hitting it to turn, make sure the lock is on.
I will ask Snow White to give me a handI tell you what I'd do - tilt it up, open the chuck and smother it in oil. Let it soak and then cycle it in and out a few times. If it's full of dwarf you'll have to strip it..
