So yeh, we have a couple of those sorts of torches, to be totally honest, we rarely use them, but they are good when needed. If we're doing the spray fuse sort of job, we'll normally put the material down with a 5p (bigger brother of one of these torches) then either stick them in a furnace to fuse, or do it with a standard torch depending on how many items we're doing.
Theres a bit (or lot) of an art to it, first few times i tried it, it mostly ended up on the floor!! Much like convetional welding, its easy to 'have a go', but takes a lot of practice to be really good.
Very good for shaft reclaim and other such items, I know 'abom79' on youtube uses his quite a bit for that sort of thing, but they can also be used to create hybrid type shafts, with a hard area for a seal, or to reclaim the shaft by putting a harder material into the damaged area and remachining....
Your limited on what materials you can use with them if youre planning on fuse-ing them (off the top of my head, they'll need to be high in nickel, chrome, boron, silicone of a mix of these, which limits you to a 'small' range of metalics), although quite a few materials could be applied and used unfused, which is still a useful option. Stubbs welding for example did some plastics which are designed to go through those guns, which is (very) ocassionally useful, if you need to make a 'non marking' roller or something??

As I mentioned, theyre the only type of thermal spray that we do, that actually counts as 'welding' all of the rest of it, from flame spray, plamsa, arc spray, or hvof, still remains techincally seperate from the base material. this brings its own advantages and disadvatages depending on what youre trying to acheive....

Interesting. I've had it a few yrs, not used as yet. One of those, I know what that is! How much?! Sold 
I did call Stubs, and speak to someone who gave me some tips on setup etc. But its that long ago Ive mostly forgotten what he said
