Thanks. I started guaging how bad the access to the driveplate bolts is. Not sure I saw them all. If it stops raining, I'll go down later hopefully and have another look. Engine is 'previously enjoyed' so who knows what trials its suffered through shaft misalignment etc. I'll investigate the bearing replacement too. Would play be detectable by trying to wobble the shaft? Have you changed a bearing in this- big task?The last one of those that I changed was a real sod. The seal had been retained with loctite into the housing, had to destroy the seal and carefully fold up the outer ring. Rubber seal fitted fine after a good clean up and wash out. Generally the seals only leak on those if the bearing is on its way out or the shaft alignment has been poor.
Might be easier to whip the box out.
