Struggling with Paton EuroMIG 150

Hi guys.

I finally decided to pull the trigger and ordered the euromig 150. It arrived today and after reading the manual (which isn't very helpful tbh) I set about using it for the first time. As I mentioned before in another post I'm a complete novice to welding. No matter what I tried I just couldn't get it to work. I was going to use gas and had a small disposable bottle ready but the machine didn't come with a hose or coupling, which I have now ordered. I got some flux core from Halfords as I just wanted to actually use it, after trying for over an hour, I took the shroud off and manayyo get a tiny little weld, but that was it. Is there something I'm completely missing? I was practicing on 1mm steel with 0.8 flux core. Sorry for the silly post, it's probably something simple but hoping you guys would know. Thanks for any advice

Flux core...does that require the polarity to be switched to negative torch?

Yep that's correct, which I've done but still not getting a consistent spark

I used two scrap pieces to practice with and cleaned both sides. I've got the two pieces touching. Is the magnet overkill?

I tried various settings, just couldn't even get it to spark. Then when it eventually did spark and sort of made a tack, I couldn't get it to do it again.

whats amps does it go to ?

id pick a thicker bit of metal 3mm wack up the amps and just weld stright lines once you covered the metal go back over the top and keep going

and if your lucky enough to have a member near you to at least cheak the mechine welds ok that would be half the battle could poss give 20 mins know how

Strong magnets will distort the arc in my experience...but usually only right next to the magnet.

I don't use flux core so not much help...only other thing I can think of is did you swap the wire feed rollers. I think flux core uses different rollers that grip the wire better?

Thank you, I have had a good read through before but I'll have another read through again. I'm embarrassed to say I struggle to retain information from reading whereas watching a video or watching someone in front of me, I seem to pick it up easier.

It only came with the one roller. I've realised I need a knurled roller which I'll order tomorrow. I also set the tension very light.

Just a thought, but I don't know too much myself: is the Contact Tip also 0.8mm? I ask only becasue my MIG came with 1.0mm wire and a 1.0mm Contact Tip. Having ordered 0.8mm wire, I also needed to buy the 0.8mm tips.

It came with a 0.8 tip which I'm using. I'll order some more tips, and hopefully I'll get the gas sorted soon.

If it feeds wire and ground clamp set speed and amps at half way setting it should at least show some sort of weld or holes burnt through.
If not Phone supplier, and query

Is the wire actually feeding? A knurled roller maybe preferable though not necessarily needed.
