struggling with mitre cuts after a long day

its been a long noisy strenuous day and im knackered, but still need to work out something for an upcoming birthday present (needed by next week)

basically, my rage mitre saw will cut 45* max mitre, but i want to cut pieces to make a hexagon

as we all know a hexagon has 6 sides with a sum of 720* for all the angles...this means 120* per angle requiring a 60* cut...

how can i do this on my rage with a max of 45*?

wouldnt that give me a 60* interior angle rather than a 120* interior angle?

Does your saw read 90 or 0 when it makes a square cut?
You want the 60/30 mark which is between the square cut and 45deg

If you dont trust it, cut a scrap piece of shs and butt the cut ends together to test the angles.

it reads 0 at square and 45* either side...

i have just set it to 30 and made some cuts, it works and i understad why now after seeing it...i was struggling with the numbers, but 30* just means 30 off 90 which is obviosuly 60...

Chop a section of timber to 15 degrees and then place that against the fence.
Turn the saw to 45 and place the piece to be cut against the 15 degree wedge, that'll cut 60.

yeah pretty much...i was getting confused as i only ever use this saw for square or 45* cuts...my last saw read 90 at square and 60 for the cut i need, this one reads 0 at square and 30 for the cut i need

It's simple mathematics, the angle you need is 60 so to make it you need two bits 30, join em together and you have 60. Exactly the same as making a 90 angle
