aint even gunna waste my time trying anything elborate untill ive got beads niceJust remember that when you are practicing on the one piece of aluminium, that as you lay down bead after bead that the sheet is going to get hotter and hotter which will subsequently change what the next bead will look like, if you lay one bead wait for it to cool then lay down another one, you will get a truer result for that particular setting.
Also if welding aluminium, the piece that sits on a thick metal bench base will loose much more heat then when you are welding it when it is off the bench, so you will have to adjust the settings to compensate.

yep yer in the "Zone" m8 looking good.
you need to back off a tiny bit as the plate heats up you can see how yer bead is starting to flatten out at the end of the last 2 runs.

yup, practise practise practise, it has sure helped that before i even attempted to weld anything i read all about it and watched lots of videos plus took the advise of not trying to run before i could walk :P.

Looking good,
Whats quite critical with ali is torch angle in relation to workpiece,
The torch needs to be almost upright at about 85degrees,
When layed back you'll find that thinner filler rods burn back before entering the pool and the "dimes" tend to look more vee like in appearance instead of circular as you can see in the r/hand side of the bottom run of the last photo.

Try backing off the pedal a bit.

With Ally you need to be a bit further off the panel and pretty upright, press the pedal enough to get it to puddle, once its going you can back off a touch.

on 3mm alloy i am set at 145amp max to start with but i use a foot pedal and allways have to start backing off after a few inches of welding.

That's what I meant. He just said it better than me
But! I was shown how to ally weld by Runnach, and he runs it hot but just throws in that filler - it's no dab-two-three-dab-two-three thing he does, it's dab-dab-dabbing like machine gun fire from the moment you have the pool wet, then backing off at the end to avoid melt through. You have to train that left thumb and forefinger to go like blue blazes.
Don't forget, adding filler cools the weld.
