Struggling to see clearly

Im currently using an ESAB sentinel A50 for work which is mainly TIG welding for fabrication and working on cars, so quite often its in a confined and dark space under or in a car. Ive fitted a head torch to the mask so I can see better, but once I'm welding I'm struggling to see the weld and what I'm welding.

Ive been considering buying an optrel weld cap to help with the welding in confined spaces problems, but more importantly need to see the weld much better. Any recommendations for a mask that will help me see much clearer once I'm welding?

I should add, ive had my eyes tested and new prescription glasses but its more to do with how dark the subject is.

More light is needed on the subject. The head torch might seem bright on its own, but it's probably not very bright compared to the intensity of the arc. What head torch is it, out of interest?

So a quick look at headtorches and comparing a few show the one im using is only 150 lumens. How many lumens do i need to be looking at?

Car headlights are 3000 to 6000 lumens, but some of the LED ones are up to 20000.


As you age the amount of light you need doesn't just double or treble - it increases by an order of magnitude I'm afraid.

Im mid 40s and my eyes have indeed deteriorated rapidly within the last few years! Ledlenser do some nice headtorches at around 1000lumens.

What shade are you on?
