Strongman Glenfinnan dismantling.

I have bought this lift from Filton in Bristol. I now have to find a way to dismantle it ready for transport and I know nothing about the work required. It then needs to be rebuilt at my works in Gloucester. I am hoping that the seller will have a few mates round for lifting, but I could do with some technical expertise and maybe some spare muscle, should any be available? Pencilled in this Saturday to make a start. Craftsman have been consulted, but nothing as yet from them. I have a car transporter coming to collect it as longest part is 3.2m and total weight is 1.3 tons, too much for a car and trailer.

does the company still exist as that looks like a lift a local garage had about 30 years ago all i can say is take loads of pictures

If you're not going far do @8ob's trick, lift the ramp up. Reverse under it, unbolt it from the floor, lower the lift thus jacking up the legs. Unbolt everything else from the garage. Strap it down and drive off...

it's cable operated over an hydraulic cylinder ....
photo's of cable runs is a must....

Dont dismantle it. Hire a big flatbed trailer, raise ramp and back it underneath, lower onto trailer, lift out failsafe bars from top of stanchions, unbolt legs from floor and lay them complete with cables still attached across the ramp. Strap down, hang a hiviz on each corner and drive off
Dismantle if you like but its a lot more work and totally unnecessary.

That is a very interesting idea Bob. I started to think where I could get a suitable trailer and then remembered that the lift is in a garage, behind a wall with access big enough for a car only, so the trailer would be able to get nowhere near.

If space is tight but you can get a car in there you could detach the trailer and get that in there on its own, take a mucker with you and push the trailer out with the ramp on to somewhere you can reattach the tow vehicle.

A mate did it exactly as said above on an Ifor Williams trailer. I wasn't there but very easy by all accounts.

If you're forced to dismantle it, number all the parts e.g. 1<>1, 2<>2, 3<>3 etc to aid correct reassembly. Easy to mix components up, especially if there are a few lads pulling it apart.

That’s how I done mine

Mine was the same, once the load of the ramps and ends was on the flat bed trailer, just removed the cables from the uprights and laid them flat on the ramps. Put the hydraulic pump at the top so no leaking. Drove mine around 80km, no problems. Offload at the other end with a front loader. There's photos on here somewhere...

Strongman make some good kit, I've viewed a few of theirs at the NEC,

They are designed to be self assembled so taking apart shouldn't be beyond the averagely capable, though you won't be doing it alone!

Might be worth contacting Strongman, I've always found them very helpful.

Helped with one this way too.

Also helped move one in bits. Don’t do that unless you absolutely have to. It is a world of hurt.
