My wife has an elderly alloy Santa Cruz mountain bike. I thought I’d surprise her by respraying it as the paint has been bubbling in places.
Snag is I cannot shift the old paint! I’ve been using industrial paint stripper by T Euro which I’ve used previously with good effect on other paint - it smells and stings like the original Nitromors used to! Tried sanding it before the stripper but no better- the stripper barely softens it.
I’ve also tried just sanding, just clogs the sandpaper. Wire brush no better. Then tried mild heat hoping the paint would burn off but just seems to go sticky.
Anyone any ideas? Whatever Santa Cruz painted it with it is very good! It’s almost like a powder coating but is definitely paint.
