Nice work! sorry for the newbie question....but how did you make the little threads and how did you cut the holes and shape the sheet steel like that?

Hi Paul, By the little threads do you mean the boss that the fairing fixes too? if so I cut a piece of 12mm round bar and bored a hole 5mm and tapped it M6, the holes in the sheet I punched then cut the main shape with a guillotine and shaped the rest with a fibre disc in the grinder. "a wee bit of sheet metal milling as I call it!"

Ah right I see. How did you punch the holes? what machine did you use?

Using one of these I have a smaller punch but not with the size of punch and die I needed to do the large hole size.

Thats looks complicated and expensive!

Not complicated, got it at the right price from an auction still had the anti rust protective coating on it!

Cool....I'm just starting out and the amount of things that you can buy to fabricate things is rediculous! lol. Could you do the same thing with a drill, grinder and band saw?

Try buying a guillotine it only does the one thing and costs a small fortune. You could do most using a hole saw or Q-max cutter but not on that thickness of stainless with the later but more time consuming. Watch out for the cutting speed on the bandsaw you dont want a fast cutting speed for stainless. Collect as you go repair broken things thats what I have done over the years you sometimes get lucky or are in the correct place at the right time and get a bargain if you hear of something coming up keep quiet about it word soon spreads and if not quick enough you will lose out I have been there. Also remember you only get what you pay for, on new things if it sounds too cheep it is probably not worth the money spent on purchasing it.
