Wee job for today was to make a bracket to hold a set of clocks and nose fairing/cone. My mate bought a crashed Yamaha R1 which he a has brought back to life over the winter. He called along the other week to show what he had been upto over the winter weeks the clocks were cable tied to the lights his excuse was he could not wait to get out on it.

Seeing as he was heading over to the Isle of Man to compete in an enduro event I asked him to leave it for the weekend and would tidy it up for him so I knocked up a stainless bracket and stay for it.

I got some alloy ends pressed to make swirl pots and oil catch tank's but they'r 75mm in dia bit big for a m/c more suited for cars and sidecars.

They are a requirement for MOT on anything after 1986 though (unless it's an off road machine designed to carry only the rider) I like the machine though.

I understood only if they are fitted they have to work, you could run it without a head light and have a no lights mot but must have a stop light. The bike has just been through an mot.

Used to like that Sam. ie if you have indicator switches but no indicator lights, when they had to work, however if you taped up the switch it would pass.

I know the MOT inspector and he still won't pass anything dodgy It's his livelihood and if you get pulled and say he passed it like that they will take away his testing privileges He gave me an advisory for not having a rear reflector

That's gone straight over my head Sam I help out a couple of days a week at the local bike shop and get free MOT and services and a local garage recently lost his testing license for doing a retest without the vehicle present. The Ministry van was outside reading his computer at the time

Sorry, was a bit tongue in cheek as if he would grass up the inspector he would more than likely say he removed them after the mot. Know what you mean about the ministry my mate lost his licence as well but before the days of computerised mot they sent in a car with faults and he passed the car letting a few go.

You can have MOTs with notes for daytime use on any age...but if you have lights, it must be a full set.
