I wind almost all my small spools from larger rolls. I use my metal lathe running real slow in backgear but a drill press can prob be used if it runs slow. I just kinda guide the wire with my hand and it winds fine. It also feeds fine from my spoolgun or my mig welder. I am tired of paying big bucks for small spools when i do have some free time to roll my own...Bob http://new.photos.yahoo.com/aametalmaster/album/576460762368375408
Just to update on this. I wound the wire onto a blank 15kg spool from the little 1/2 kg one..........tedious but do-able. I used 15lpm and had my Portamig 211 on high amps. Weld is anything but neat but it did the job I wanted. Found it would stop feeding if torch cable was not straight . I had the pinch roller set very light. Pureshield Argon
Ally goes off like a firework ........weird stuff.....and choking fumes. Have a laugh at the welds..........but they are strong
