Strange Diestock Holder

Just got this ww die set from @Seadog

We're not sure what the blue bit on the RHS is for.

If you unscrew the 2 halves of the diestock the blue thing screws in, giving you a die mounted in a holder with a square tapered tang on it.

It fits perfectly in a hand brace which could be useful in a tight spot, using the ratchet on the brace to turn it a partial turn. Another thought is that its for machine threading.

Any thoughts from the knowledgeable folk on here?

Out on-site thread cleaning /chasing on iron water /gas pipe ends & perhaps even putting thread on cut pipes using the ratchet brace

That's the first one of them I've ever seen ,
It appeals to me that it might have been made for using auger bits to put in early domestic copper & rubber coated domestic electric wiring through floor joists where they were brought up through a board or being a skirting board then pinned to the door frames & skirting boards.

Back in the early 1950's we were funded by an aunt to have 1/4 inch copper gas pipe put in the 1700's wreck of a house. The guy outside used a long Rawl plug star jumper to tap his way in through the outer 9inch hand made brick solid wall to bring the gas pip in from the cylinders inside. IIRC there was some sort of d copper spider that had three take offs on it . one for the cooker & kitchen gas lamp , one for the living room light which went up stairs for a light in Mum and Dads bed room & one for a light in the little used damp cold unheated save for crimbo day front room

The fitter used a long 1/4 inch hand auger to set the living room overhead gas light in the middle of the room. Once he'd made the hole so deep, he went upstairs to see where it had come through the floorboards, so he knew which ones to lift.
It hadn't appeared so he went out to his van to get a much longer 2 foot one . after putting it in a good 18 inches he went back up to see if it had poked through .. still not there.
I recall him putting it in so his knuckles were touching the ceiling. He went back upstairs and it still hadn't shown through.
He came back down and talked with mum, got his wooden folding rule out did some measuring then called mum upstairs. to help move the bed , they found they couldn't , he nipped back downstairs removed his gimlet and they found he'd bored through the floor up into the leg of the bed ,

Two piece dies are good for cleaning up a damaged thread as you can put them on half way down and then wind them off the fastener.

Reminds me of drilling a hole at the foundry in the 70's, had to put a hole in the floor of the pattern making shop to run a cable, used a 3 foot long masonary bit to get through the concrete floor, I went down to the "cellar" where the wood was stored and couldn't find the hole after a bit of measuring we worked out the cellar was about 10 feet shorter than the pattern shop above and we'd been drilling into dirt

its an ornament .i have the same set i got 40 years ago i dont use the dies there a pain in the ass. i just got a load of second hand split dies and replaced them

car boot in europe are full of them.....they think they are worth a fortune....
speaking of threaded pipe....
I got lucky at a French car boot, the lad was obviously cleaning out his dads plumbing tooling....I bought loads....
this Rothenburger power threading kit was €75 euro's worn but very good condition.....always wanted one.....
and the motor is reversable for those that dont know so it will drive my home made tube bender.....
