straightening radiator fins

I did know about the fins rotting seen it on old fridge and freezer rads rotted to the point on non existance

my fins are badly bent to the fact of big areas of the rad having no air flow through it I think.

I have nothing to loose only time, if it goes wrong I can put the Ali rad it I am just being lazy about taking the front apart and draining down the system again!

Id rather replace the rad next year when i do the cam belt if I can get away with it.

Oh I understand, I have spent time in the past combing them. If it as you say, stopping air,and it cost nothing but time and coffee, why not.

But what was a shock was when he told me the craze for cleaning and showing off cars, (I think he means boy racers and car show nuts) is when some one cleans the fin with something acidic and other time it destroys the fins and renders it scrap. I live and learn.

The caustic soda used in RTF and the like is the worst stuff. paint comes off fins, so the caustic eats them.

When I played an a maniac for my trade & wages ....Any grease/hair dust or oil blockage in a rad fin matrix was usually given a four sprays with diesel or Gunk a couple of hours apart & left over night for the liquids to soak in then I'd use a hose pipe from the rear of the radiators air flow , without any attachment to gently flush the crud away . One occasion it didn't work I made up a Tee " so I could put mixed hot cold water through the hose this worked every time .
