I am looking for a half decent precision straight edge about 1 -1.5m long, any suggestions? I have tried the usual suspects without success unless I want to spend silly money
If your not looking for too much accuracy buy yourself 1m of ground flat stock or silver steel, that's as good as you'll get without going into precision straight edge money.
It is for a machine build so would like better accuracy than GFS... I have a couple and they are OK but not good enough for what I need I don't think... all I am seeing at the mo is either Starret or equivalent, or stuff described as "precision" but no tolerance or certification. I would sooner not spend 4-500 notes unless I have to
Look for large engineers levels. I got an 18" M&R level for £90 before Xmas. Without going to a fully scraped straight edge I think they will be the best you can do.
I dont know if you've tried http://www.western-tooling.co.uk/ , I suppose they might have a camel back one. I've not used them but found them a while ago while looking for a bore gauge.
Call into a double glazing manufacture...they use the Ally profile box in the frames and its super light and super straight.Thats were i get my straight edges ranging from 1M upto 5M,ime sure they will sell you a length
