Mmm harvesting it, now that's a good idea.
ill have to ask the old woman if she's got a few coffee jars she don't want, the lids are better than jam jars.
I think 2 jars would be ample for next winter, but always handy to have a spare
I better put another 3 locks the garage door, don't want any thieving toe rag helping themselves to my machinery jollop.

I wonder if it would be any good as drilling fluid

It was meant for drilling, if you drill without it she wont let you drill it again

You could also use linseed oil which dries after a week or so that leaves a protective coating.

linseed oil is not a good idea on a moving part, I have had to strip down lots of stuff in the past that had linseed oil causing huge problems.
it gets tacky then collects dirt then bungs up all nooks and cranny's stopping any lubrication getting to the right places.
acts like a varnish.
