Stopping ivy growing too high up wall

What's the best way to get all the little tendrils off the brickwork?

Whenever I want to kill it,I always cut it at the base,twice,2” between each cut,to stop it bridging.
@gaz1 ,too risky playing a torch near masonry,you get explosions due to moisture in the voids.

I’m about to rebuild a large boundary wall. The customer had let the ivy consume the wall which weakened the wall extremely badly. The whole thing blew over a couple of months ago

your burning the roots tendrils off so dosnt affect the brick or stone like building a a firepit and having a fire in it as that will explode with heat from the fire
same with concrete explodes if you build a fire on top of it

Ivy destroys houses and trees.

As @brightspark said cut it twice at the base.

An appropriate herbicide is the easy/simple answer to the problem.

I‘ve recently pulled it off one of my garden walls, it gets everywhere, I was surprised to see it had gone right through the double course brick wall in a couple of places and pushed off the pebbledash which I’ll have to repair.
When we bought our house it had been lying empty for 15 years, ivy was up one wall, went under lead flashing at one point and had taken residence in the loft.

I don’t think anyone was suggesting letting it grow inside a cavity wall

Any cracks, & it can grow through a wall, slowly forcing the brick/stone apart as it grows & thickens.
