What paint did you use on the underside of your breadvan ?

I was using Bilt Hamber Electrox followed by Upol Gravitex, but its showing some rust in places again, so on my other polo, I'm using Jotun 87, both cars were stripped back to bare metal before repainting them. Im just hoping that the Jotun 87 lasts better.

That certainly does not warrant being on a scrap heap.. I remeber seeing a camper van in Newquay years ago and thought it looked awesome. I have seen some since that look bloody aweful though and it seems people are trying to copy the good looking ones but failing.

There's one improvement I'd make to that and it would be to paint it.
It is very nice though.

I was asked to help restore a 1955 Peugeot mocycle, when the dust was cleaned off it was similar to that but with more of the original paint evident and the plan was to have it stripped n powder coated -so I backed out-the name on the tank and pinstriping would have been hand done,when I cleaned up the silencer I found the end cap had been beautifully brazed on.
If its honest rust grown over the years and is not critical, then I think its OK.
If a Rat bike has evolved over some years thats also fine but I don't like instant rats or the ones where the owner has not known when to stop and gone over the top..

I am firmly in the camp that if its rusty, it doesn't stay on my bike. If its on the car it gets welded or sanded back and painted. Rust is evil regardless of its location. The only place I like that or oxidation is on sculptures

i hate the "rat look"

i allways thought rat ars were ones that had had a lot of work done to the mecanicals to make them go some but the body work was left allone ether because of funds or for comody value. therefore tramping up a 1.1 or 1.3 shopping trolly makes no sense at all to me.

as far as I knew the term rat car or bike consisted of using parts from other cars and bikes sourced free of charge and applied to the build not just the paint work

A true Rat is born out of necessity, using the parts to hand to get it running or keep it running.
Tarting it up/down to look like I my opinion is not.

My truck is not a rat, it's just old, when it required parts repairs they were done the parts used were correct, not whatever they had to hand.

It's clearly been looked after in it's 64yrs there is no rot. The owner didn't see the need to repaint it when the harsh Oklahoma sun and wind removed it, no different to a tractor. It was IS a tool to be used.

I use the truck as intended, this was Saturdays job, collecting firewood.

stick it in a shed with heating and dehumidifier and only use it in fine weather

Well I believe the worst thing you can do is clear coat it. It WILL break down, the water WILL get under the lacquer, and when that happens how the hell do you get it off without ruining the patina?

So mine has just been blathered in Wax with an old paint brush, I don't bother polishing it, the underside was amazing so that got a power wash and blathered in Dinitrol. I've had it just over a year now, and so far so good.
