Stonechip, does this look ok ?

Here is some stonechip primer iv applied and wondering if iv not really sprayed enough on off it ? The other photo looks like it's been applied thicker and looks better. I have applied two coats worth of it.

What do you think ?

2nd pic doesnt look that uniform ....if it needs to be perfect maybe let it dry and another even coat

Yeah im not bother about how it looks tbh, as long as its going to work as it should. I have found the first two pics are feel a little hard to the touch compared to the last picture.

I had a bit of trouble with the stonechip sprayer and my low 7 cfm compressor which i think is the reason why it was not coming out thick enough. I thought it would come out a bit like spraying normal paint.

Im not sure but i think i have to sand key the surface so i can apply another coat, the paints instructions dont say anything about keying its surface for normal top coat paint. The company i got it from is closed all week it seems.

Im going to buy some stonechip in a spray can for the good thick top coat, the stonechip did take its time to fully cure even though it says 20 mins curing time. Two days after it was painted it felt like it was peeling off with a finger nail, but now a few more days later its proper stuck to the panels. The temp has been around 10 degrees though instead of the 15 minimum it says it needs on the tin.

ive never keyed it for paint or further coats , the thinners in it will soften up the previous coats if you want to add more

Oh and one more thing, the stonechip looks lumpy and not like what the cars original stonechip looks like on the sills etc. I thought it's suppose to look like orange peel and mine looks more lumpy rather than orange peely.

Or is it because iv not top coated it yet ?

Looks like it has gone on a little thick. Stonechip is a pain for that. Helps a lot if you heat up the cans in hot water to make them nice and runny, giving them a good shake every now and again, then before spraying decant into an empty tin so you don't have the thick layer in the bottom of the can.

It's only the finish that becomes uneven when it's too thick. It'll still work fine. If you are bothered then it is possible to wet flay and then spray another coat.

doesnt quiete look like original no , i recon you needed a heavier coat

it wont make the heavily stippled finish like arches often have , more like what sills have

you can add a dash off celly thinners to make it go on smoother...higher pressure will get it on smoother or low pressure to get a splatter effect

Must have been the pressure then, i heated the stonechip in hot water before hand and kept shaking the can whilst i was painting it. There is a lot of splatter around other panels that i now have to sand down. I was not sure whether to use boiling water or just very hot water when warming the cans up.

I will paint another coat without flatting it down as that is far too much work with the little time i have, im sure it wont do any harm and may give it more protection.

Im glad i dont have to key it before i apply the next coat or top coat, this is the first time iv ever used stonechip.
