Glad they have been recovered, in an ideal world the tools will now be returned to their rightful owners and those responsible won't be able to do it again. A shame we don't live in an ideal world.

I've bought from Police auctions many years ago, a lot of very nice items were being sold off. I'd like to think they are from "proceeds of crime" seizures but I'm sure a lot were never reported stolen (I don't bother any more) or they were reported at the time and the police for whatever reason couldn't / didn't match the recovered item with any of the reported thefts - hence unable to return them.

Perhaps what should happen is victims of tool theft should be given first refusals to buy unclaimed tools before they go to auction.

After reading this a minute ago I popped onto Facebook Marketplace. First ad was a pallet of power tools, for £350 …… It looked fairly kosher…. They're undamaged returns, apparently.

This is quite old news here. About twenty miles from us. They have been selling on eBay for some time too.

From a Caravan Utilising etc background. Why these people are released on bail is beyond me.

Surely the first choice would be the local cheap options .. carboot fairs + Faacebook Marketplace + Eb@Y + Gumtree etc...

Ah is that the reason why because the thieves didn't look like they were doing a good job selling them on, just storing them.

Too much work involved. Local scroats have knicked them for a bit of weed. Add another middle man in, container, job done.
I know a guy who does legit scrap, £5 - microwave, oven, bike, working or not. He earns a 4 figure sum every week before lunch time.

Well done to the person that fitted a tracker. Shifting the odds of getting caught like that costs the individual a bit but makes everyone's tools safer
