Stihl MS201 carburettor confusion

That line that goes to the crankcase will be the impulse line for the carbs fuel pump as there doesn't look to be one next to the main inlet.

Yes I think that's what it is. It's not a fuel line anyway- this photo shows the fuel tank for clarity. There is only one fuel hose and a vent hose



The other hose does go into the engine crankcase.

As I say that carb in post #39 I'm 99% certain is correct. There are no electronics, the orientation, adjustment screws and both pipe connections all look correct. It has to be it.

Mine came with 2x long bolts for the carb. That carb also has a locating shroud so that makes sense too for fitment. (As there are no studs for it to slide onto)

I have a new genuine carburettor ordered which is the one I strongly believe will fit this saw. Fingers crossed!!

After alot of searching I ordered this kit which was considerably cheaper than ordering the carb on its own and includes a new flywheel and ignition
coil. I'll likely fit those parts anyway since I'll now have them on hand when building it back up.



(I believe this particular kit is also considered to boost power but that wasn't my main aim)

The above Stihl upgrade kit with all genuine parts arrived today. The carb fits! I tested the function of the choke and throttle, perfect fitment. Phew!

There is an instruction page and different shaped throttle rod with this kit so it's definitely some sort of mod kit but it fits great no issues at all. (Test fit on the handle until the saw is completely assembled again) This included the flywheel and coil which have to be installed with the kit they are different part numbers than the originals on the saw. This was considerably cheaper also for the whole kit VS the individual parts prices which would have been nearer £400 ish separately.

That's the official upgrade kit Stihl sold at a discount because the original 201 didn't sell as it was underpowered and not a patch on the MS200T it was supposed to replace. Everyone said it should have been recalled and the upgrade fitted free.

All back together and running great. Starts at first whiff of a pull and seems like a really powerful little saw. Very pleased with how it turned out.







Beside it's bigger brother MS391



I will be putting this little saw to work next Saturday taking down the last of the old large trees around my house. The small one will be ideal for de branching / climbing for limb removal where required. And the large one of course to fell and cut up the logs.
