Stihl leaf blower wont run

Hi All,

Having some bother getting my Stihl leaf blower to run. Difficult to start and when it does, it dies when you blip the throttle or just dies eventually if left running.

Assumed dirt in carb so have replaced it but no better. Tried with no air filter, new fuel filter, new plug - all the same.

Read about a clogged spark arrestor but doesnt appear to have one.

Any ideas? The priming bulb seems to take a while to fill (3/4 seconds) but tried running without fuel cap lid incase it was creating a vacuum but nothing either.

cheaked the fuel lines ? and primer bulbs are very cheap replace it

cheaked the fuel lines ? and primer bulbs are very cheap replace it

Fuel lines look ok but next to replace I guess. Bulb is part of the carb so new now

this normally happens to mine when i have the 2 stoke mix a bit too rich, but i don't doubt you've checked/replaced

Old fuel? It does go stale with all the eco-carp they put in.
If not, do you know a lassie who could suck-start it

These carbs rely on vacuum pulses from the crankcase to bring fuel up to the carb from the tank, sounds to me like its running on primed fuel and then conking out through lack of or weak pulses, worth checking the integrity of the fuel lines though but does sound like shot crank seals.

don't bother with the cheap fuel buy the best available .......lower Eco carp in it and everything runs better.......
I have a v/big garden and lots of rough unkept land.....cost's an extra £1 or 2 each week........
well worth it for the ease of starting and better running....
now only stock enough fuel for 1 and 1/2 weeks cos it goes off so fast here......

the new carb have you set up the screws to set the fuel mixture ?

Ohh dear....sounds like it could be this?! Will try the fuel hoses first mind you as they are a bit easier to do. Tried brand new fuel so know thats not an issue and adjusted the carb.
