funny you should mention that, but it started off looking like this

and I am needing some more work space, but if I had a proper shed, it would just end up being full of junk, and would require maintenance, so I decided to get a temporary garage in a machine mart vat free sale

I need a temporary work space for about 4 years so I can get my triumph herald rebuilt for my 50th birthday. which has been in my garage since 1997.

my house is like an oversized workshop anyway, in the past what would be my "dining room" has been used for spraying car parts

and one of my bedrooms is a small workshop for doing woodwork in

and can you tell me if its normal to keep cement and postcrete in your "living room" which for me is just a store room

...... I am keeping the bags of sand outside though. the postcrete to to have some anchorage points for the temporary garage, as I wouldn't trust the tiny pegs they supply.

one day I'll have to grow up and be a normal adult

yeah I'm single, although the expression "over my dead body" springs to mind, and you don't know what's buried under the steps.


ohh and maybe I should add that my favourite tool at the minute is a mortar (or mason's) hoe, which I made as practice for TIG welding.

in the past I've tried using different methods for mixing mortar by hand, but have found that I always ended up with bad back ache once I'd finished mixing the mortar, so would have been in pain while using it for laying flags or bricklaying. so this is used with a wheelbarrow like in the video below.

I can mix 50kg batches without back ache now, but I'm surprised that you can't buy the hoe's in B&Q, Wickes, Toolstation or Screwfix, although they are available quite cheaply on ebay.

I did think of getting a cement mixer, you can get cheap ones for arround £100, but I guess I'd have to keep it in the living room for storage.......I guess I'd be able to use it as a washing machine for clothes though.

i have the belle cement mixer used it loads of times

still mix in the wheel barrow but hate doing so

now im going to make the above hoe and give it a go in the next few days

whats your next plan of action here optima as im willing to spare some time your way and help out

ive made mine up today using 3mm steel cut it in half then cut the circle in it by grinding it out then weld it with gasless wire

handle and hoe end is a proper end cut off where i wanted it and welded to the plate



ive then trimed an 1" off after testing it and also inserted a v in the middle of bottom plate

its only a test one for me so couldnt care less what it looks like

that mixer in the video looks like an accident waiting to happen, he's definatley got a pigeon to help him with the welding. I don't really have a plan of action, I'm just doing it when Im in the mood for doing work outside, e.g. when Im not too tired or its not raining. I started doing this garden in March, my deadline is the end of august, so it should be easily done and thanks for the offer of help.

why are you using gasless wire, Ive got a full sized CO2 cylinder (and regulator) that I don't use anymore, so you're quite welcome to use that (if you want to).

what are you wanting doing, just let me know, I might be able to assist you

He's made a nice effort on that mixer and it's undoubtedly better than mixing my hand. But yes, the blobs of metal passing as welds are worrying!

They are also crap IMHO. Don't mix well and it sticks behind the blades.
