Stellite - 6 hardfacing on Inner diameter of 32mm

Dear Friends,

I am having a problem regarding stellite hardfacing.

Kindly suggest suitable welding torch and welding process to carry Stellite - 6 hardfacing on Inner diameter of 32mm to a finish thickness of 2mm.

I disnt think you could weld stellite because it is so hard and cracks while cooling? or am I thinking of something else.

we use stellite in work for datum pins and they are always pressed in place as opposed to the stainless ones we used to use that were welded in

Think he's talking about depositing it with a view to machining afterward. Would expect rods are the way to go.

I misunderstood, I thought he wanted to weld to stellite, if youre just hardfacing then I would suggest rods as well

Hi friends,

Thanks for showing interest about my problem.

I am having sufficient experience to carry stellite welding on different types of base materials.

Kindly note that I have to carry hardfacing/cladding of Stellite -6 material on a High alloy stell which internal bore size is 32mm. For carry this operation, i have to choose suitable torch and process.

My biggest worry is to find pencil torch for MIG Process by which i can carry welding on 32mm Bore.

Kindly suggest if any body did it before (or) having the idea to do the same.

with a 32mm bore you could use any process, so really it depends on what you have available, what you can get hold of or what you know how to do.

i.e if you only have a mig and only know how to use mig, there is your answer

I see what you mean now. I dont think you will find a torch that can weld inside a 32mm bore. The usual hot wire tig method wont do smaller than 150mm I think. Smaller are often done mechanically (shrink fit)

I also think it is impossible.
1st - ID=32 mm is so small. We have boring/welding device, and so far we cladded inside to ID=50 mm down. On the other hand our boring machine use MIG/MAG process, so the only option is Stellite 6, flux cored wire...
2nd - I do not know if it is allowed to get cracks in machined surface, is there just one layer or two... what is outside diameter, as if you must preheat, and wall is thin, you have another type of problem.
3rd - Once, we had similar problem and we solved it as butchers... We cut the pipe axialy, cladded inside, then rewelded it to the pipe again... I think some pipe for transport of ash dust.

What about Bore welder`machines, some websites showing that they can weld 1inch bore also.

Any body having idea about boretech welding machines.
