Locally it was called a ponch, used in a dolly tub for washing clothes.

The dolly was like a 3 legged stool with a T handle that was used to swirl the clothes round in the water and the ponch was used to push them down and squish the water through them.

Regional differences.

Must be we call them poss (posser) tubs. We still have our wash house boiler for washing the cloths. We live in a miners cottage from the 1800s so it's all original. Not sure what the wife would would say if I got a poss tub and mangle and say we're cutting back and that's the new washing machine

My gran had one, she used it with an electrically heated copper. The wet clothes were transferred to the mangle to wring the water out, then ironed, the iron being plugged into the light fitting hanging from the ceiling!

I remember my gran having the same setup, I've still got a few of those Y shaped bayonet adaptors kicking about in the garage, you removed the bulb, stick in the adaptor so you could then plug in both the iron and the light bulb so you could see what you were ironing.
