Anyone know a paint code for silver for car steel wheels? Want to get some 2k to paint some wheels.
I get steel wheels spray , its not the overly silver its more like steel grey.
Not the answer your looking for but I have used BMW titan silver but remember if you use 2k you will have to lacquer it, For wheels I've mixed base coat and lacquer and put it on in one with good results.
There's RAL 7001 but doesn't look that silver.
looked for a can but have none left, think it was car plan spray can. but steel grey rather than silver
This any help, Mitch?
Wonder if you can spray 2k clear over that?
I have no idea, spraying is one of those things on my 'yet to try' list. [got the gun(s) and the piddly little compressor but would need flat calm, warm weather in order to have a go ]
Mercedes Brilliant silver, code 744, is a good shade.
Thanks guys. Also contacted SML paints about Mercedes silver but only metallic they do is RAL 9006 which is this and reckon it will do, what do you think about the colour? https://www.smlmarinepaints.co.uk/topcoats/two-pack/JotunHardtopXPAL
Can't remember last code i used, but i normally just go to the charts and pick closest to what i'm looking for. Get a solid 2k mix and don't need lacquer
@Burdekin I had the alloys on the e39 powder coated in 'Shadow Chrome' by The Wheel Specialist in Inverness and liked it a LOT, but it'll very much depend what it's going on car-wise, I suppose.
I'll be happy to have the ones on the e60 done in the same colour, when the time comes [which it will ]
This was described as shadow chrome on the receipt when the previous (but one) owner got them powder coated, they need re doing now I can't see how they could be re touched.
There is alot of steel wheel colours, try to look at a paint swatch from the paint mixers
I retouch the wheels on my van by spraying some paint in the lid of the can and using some baby bud's to dab the spots needing a touch up.
Yes I need to find the closest match then add a touch of black perhaps.
It seems to be the silver layer that is coming off the black undercoat so might need a thin skin of filler to make up the depth too.
Massey Ferguson 'Silver Mist' looks ace on wheels, its the colour the wheels on MF tractors are painted.
If you are going 2k paint I would suggest you clear coat them for ease of maintenance. If you have to use anything abrasive to clean off the brake dust it marks any metallic paint you use unless you add clear coat!
Ordered some 2k clear coat to go with the silver.
Rustoleum do an aluminium silver spray that is a great wheel silver. Did my trailer wheels in it recently.
