Steel varnish

Can anyone reccomend a varnish for mild steel? All the metal varnishes I can find say for non ferrous metals, or certainly never mention steel in the long list of suitables. Is there a steel specific one?

Interested in this one as well.
I have tried a few car spray lacquers but eventually outside they give up the ghost.
Can anybody reccomend specific products.

I find that a good quality thick floor varnish. Go to a timber merchant and ask for sports hall varnish. Its very thick and the fumes are highly toxic so wear ppe.

Both those options look interesting.
I have used yacht varnish on rusted steel outside with success but I do wonder about on bare metal.
I must make up some samples and stick them outside and see how they get on.

Thats how i do it. Paint it and stick it in the yard for years to compare. I pained some parts on my car just to test out some metal paint. After 2 years of testing it sucks in the weather...Bob
