Steel Suppliers.

Hello folks im after some steel suppliers in around the midlands that will sell to none trade for the time being.
i tried using that shop4steel on line a few days back but doesnt look like my orders gone through.
also i used to do a lot of cash buisness with F.H Brundles when they were in long eaton they,ve now moved and are trade only.any help appreciated.

Whilst I was your way I use some one (jpl steel stock holders) just out side thurmaston. Used to buy bar steel mainly but they do sheets too. Not sure if they still do cash sales but as they get a bonuc on total tonage each week I guess it all helps. Just have a peek through the yellow pages at steel stock holders.

thanks fella yeah i used to buy a few sheets at a time from smiths on earls way also hillfoot on the troon estate.
but they wont have anyof it now
cant say ive heard of the jlp suppliers but i,ll look them up thanks.

I once bought a single sheet from Eggeston Bros. on Alfreton rd in Derby. They even cut it up to fit in the car for free, though I suspect that was because one of their machines was down and they couldn't cut it accurately.

Get in with a friendly local fabricators.
They will stock most stuff, and anything else they would get it in for you.
Not to mention have the facility to shear it to size etc for you.

Hi

New forum member but been browsing for a while Just a friendly warning about shop4steel.com. Also been looking for a supplier to deliver smallish amounts of steel, I came across this one mentioned on these forums a couple of times so thought I would give them a go despite high delivery charges. I placed an order on sunday via the web site for about £150 worth plus £38 delivery to Romford postcode, I got no email confirmation but my order was still on there when I logged back in. Finally got a call today (tuesday) telling me that they don't deliver to Essex and my order had been cancelled!
So please do not waste your time ordering from the web site unless you have phoned first to check delivery as unless you are very close to one of their depots (even if it is listed on their site as a delivery area) you will be out of luck and will be a couple of days before you find out!
Oh well nice idea, the search continues........

ello russ i used them last week on line ordered the steel just £150 of box section. filled in the credit card details etc and the steel was here within 7 days but i still havent heard anything via email from them and two weeks from ordering they havent taken the money from my account, im none trade and have no account with them if thats how they do buisness they,ll do for me .
the steel i got came from derby to leicester so no great distance.
i do sympathize with you though as the few places i delt with locally over the years dont want none trade custom of any mount it seems unless you set up an account with them.
plenty of small companies about but they charge the earth.
theres a link here i contacted last week but i thought they were pricey.
for instance a 7500mm length of 25mm box section they wanted £17 plus*^$
were as with the other place charged i think a little over a tenner a length.

Glad shop4steel worked for you, although how long they'll be around for if they forget to charge is questionable, better stock up at those prices

I have used Steel Supermarket in both Coventry and Redditch. I only bought small quantities to make an engine leveller. Redditch seemed more helpful.

Like Tachi says.....walk into a fabricators and offer cash....they love that as they don`t see a lot of it with cheques and waiting to get paid from other companys.

Thanks for the link! Just what I needed. Great website/ordering system, reasonable prices and next day delivery for £25. Again are area specific, they only cover south of england/east midlands/anglia region. Very helpful, will cut to size and shrinkwrap if needed and big choice of thicknesses. I got stock lengths to save money and had my cut off saw waiting when lorry turned up
So I now have my steel, spose I better get to work.....

Yeah, well pleased and using that 25mm box section as a reference, from parkers it was £11.36 + vat for 7.5 m so not bad I thought. Thanks for your help in the "search" shire

Its a shame i didnt find this thread earlier. I just used shop4steel as they were the only online supplier i could find.

I placed my order very early on thursday (wednesday night!) with next day delivery and it didnt come on friday after i waited in all day.
They didnt answer the phone when i rang them or answer any emails. It did however come on the monday after i'd been without it all weekend

It arrived at about 8:30 in the morning, just before i left for work. The first thing i was going to do once i got to work was ring up my credit card company and cancel the payment - so they were lucky!

Not sure i'll use them again if the other supplier linked earlier will deliver to me instead.

Parker Steel are a great bunch. Used a lot when I worked on a preservation railway (K&ESR) almost all the steel came from them, regular lorry delivery, no probs. Nice to see they're embraced the web too, and understand that even in this electronic age service is still #1 customer factor.
