You can get 1.5(16 guage) box in Heaton Buckley near Newlands cross. I got some 19mm and 25mm a while back.

Hi everyone I have found a guy in Yatton (between weston super mare and bristol he sells hollow section at what I thought to be reasonable rates ie 60mm X 60mm x4 box section 2400 long at £24,he also has smaller sizes and angle iron he's on ebay tel 07099 483974 you'll need a sat nav to find him or a native guide, its somerset after allI am createing a couple of pages for Malcolm-
The first, on the common bars sizes and sheet sizes that steel comes in.
The second part of this, will be a list of friendly steel stockholders or fab shops that are happy to deal with the odd DIYwelder coming in for a few offcuts.
I would appreciate some details of the ones you use, Names, addresses and phone numbers would be good, but just names and rough locations will do.
What sort of stuff do they keep, would be handy to know also, sheet, structural, non-ferrous....

Any updates for Gloucester? I need a piece of 3mm offcut today and have had no luck ringing around. Lillieshall are their usual unhelpful, nannies and everyone else I have tried has gone! I have an axle to repair this weekend so Ebay is no good. Need a piece about 6 inches square.

I use metal supermarkets, 269D queensway south, team valley trading estate, gateshead, tyne and wear. NE11 0SD. Help full, will cut for you. Sometimes has a full scrap bin too. I usually ring and order in advance, then collect, next day as its so far for me living in the sticks. There are a couple of places in Northumberland, but are fabricators, build farm buildings so its pot luck with what they have. So wouldnt actually recomend.

For ali brass, etc, i use holmes and dodsworth metals ltd, 69 Heaton Park Road, Newcastle upon tyne. Ring and pay on phone turn up and collect. Dont always have stock, of what you want, may need to bring in from one of their other branches

I use a place called Excel Steel based in Avonmouth, Bristol.
pretty sure they are open to public. Though they deal in FULL lengths. But it is so cheap. and they often have off cuts kicking about.

Very handy having a supplier list but nothing for Norfolk as yet. Just sent off for a small bundle for a project from 'Metalbits' (metalbits.co.uk) and have been very pleased. Prices pretty good and quick delivery with bundle well taped up and clingfilmed. Kept well informed of progress of delivery and a tracking number. Would certainly use them again.
After buying here I was told of a local supply in Stoke Ferry called 'Bonnets'. Not been there yet but told they are a small engineering and landscaping equipment type place and they have a fair stock of steel which they will sell to callers. They have a website which shows a small selection of common sections. No idea of prices and may be outrageous but I'll check them out at some time.

Is the main list of suppliers kept updated? I'm just thinking that this thread started a few years ago and was wondering, indeed hoping, that the kind moderator who took on the task is managing to keep it as up to date as possible. As and when members let others know if somebody sadly closes down of course..

Anyone know if F H Brundle are like a DIY store in that you can wander around and look at all their products or is it more like Argos where you order from a catalogue and collect from a counter ?

Possibly as part of 'elf & safety'..... I'm looking for a decent metal supplier myself but I'm further down in South Staffordshire. I have a few I need to check out over in the West Midlands so I may strike lucky....
