Steel roof ridge sections advice

My son came through with the family for a long weekend and gave me a late birthday present: a new shed rood!

The old onduline roof had seen better days:

so with a little help, he took off the old sheets, put on a layer of sterling board then water barrier:

and steel corrugated sheets:

He had planned on just bending tiles over the ridge and it did not look right, so I thought I will just by some steel ridge sections, the shed is 20' x 10'.

Looked at ridges like:

Then found they will either not post to me or charges are from £360 delivery, a few over £1000, I even tried using the wife's uncle's address in Glasgow and just the same!

Does anyone know either a steel roofing supplier in Scotland around Glasgow or an outfit that will deliver at a reasonable cost?

When I researched doing mine, I could see that delivery would cost nearly as much as the sheets...
Ten 2m x 1m sheets plus ridge & edge flashing was under 200kgs .... So I adapted my motorbike trailer (300kg limit) to enable it to take a flat load, and picked it up myself.
The ridge pieces are not that heavy.... Has your Defender got a roofrack / time to buy one ?

you will need more than you think

use edgings and also foam trims as well as the eaves cover

foam trims are to stop water being blown up the eaves sheets

if you have a decent builders merchants around they do stock metal trims nowadays

builders merchants do stock tin gulleys you can swap to those if need be or if you can find a galvanised sheet same thing really

if you have any metal profile roof left measure up

as you can flatten off the metal profile roof and use it for the ridge as well as the side trims

as it will flatten between a scaffold plank or board and use a 3x2 or 4x2 something to flatten it with as you need to hammer it flat

one question though how long did it take before grand daughter joined you on the roof as she looks itching to get on that roof with dad and grand dad

i have the daughter so never thought nothing of it and shes been on the roof as well

Thanks @gaz1 We only have Travis Perkins and Jewsons locally, I could not see it on their websites. I will look at Oban.

With that stuff its the length that kills delivery, try going for shorter lengths like 1mtr or 1.5mtrs, means more joints but with butyl strip on the ridge joints it will be fine
There must be some tin roof sheet suppliers localish that will ben up some flat coated sheet?

I just used some galv sheet from a local sheet metal place - folded by jamming down the side of my pit and leaning on it with a scaf board.

travis do sell it so you will get it from there

also buy the edgings as well

if you cant get the eves you can use the edgings instead

both of mine was younger than that and i got twitered to come on roof with me same height as well

in end i just allowed her up at 5 she was told to sit down on the roof and watch and stay there if she moved she would be taken off the roof

oh she behaved and she got what she wanted

the older lad was helping also young 7 but he did what i asked rolling out the torch on felt

a great lad for doing that.....
Invite them up before summer is out and get the shed repainted /stained.....
keep the kids working if they want......
My Polish mate is over next month and we arrange small jobs for his boys (5 n 6) to do.....
hand prints in wet concrete, nail bit's of wood together.....a great time is had by all.....
as a treat we let em drive the forklift on dad's knee plus now got the ride-on mower from storage so they can drive that as well....

Id be looking for the same. Some agri supplies business sell it too, or local Carrs Billington stocks ridge and edge stuff.

My son has ordered roofing sheets and stuff from this firm - to which I've added what I want - seem reasonable price and I think delivered to the local haulier's depot in Glasgow. Not too far for a run to collect if need be? https://www.jamessmithfencing.co.uk/cladding-roofing

Thanks all, am sorted, as @gaz1 suggested, Travis Perkins can get it in, so ordered and no delivery cost. Even better a relatives girlfriend works there so got staff discount

Its great how this forum seems to be able to resolve any challenge

one other thing if those teenage girls wants to learn the building side of it be all up for it as it will serve them well

I have four grand daughters, no boys. My son was an electrical engineer, now worldwide engineering manager for an American based pump manufacture, so they should have some positive influences. I would be better teaching them about car and motorbike mechanics as I am clueless with construction.
