Steel grades

Hi all

Can anyone tell me the difference between steel grades, for example cr2 and cr4? Am i right in thinking cr4 is harder?

Have searched the internet for hours trying to find comparison tables but had no luck, does any one have any links or recommend any books that would have this sort of information in? Looking for something i can refer to when building projects and want to know what material and grade of material to use.

its a forum for engineers that has a materials section

im sure if you post up the question on there someone will know what you are asking.

There's more info out there if you use the EN designations, CR4 = DC01. There's comparison tables about halfdown this Tatasteel/Corus booklet (searching for cr4 will take you straight to the tables)
