I've had a top of the range evolution. Noisy as hell, sprays chips everywhere and if the workpiece moves the blade is trash.
I've gone back to a 4 1/2" X 6" Chinese bandsaw. Superb once fettled!

I'd be going the same way. Set up a trombone stop and repeat cuts are a doddle.

I'm not sure I'd call £300 cheap, but you're right, it seems to be the best option

Compared to a £3000 bandsaw it is lol

Get a bandsaw, there are decent S/H ones around

I have the smaller rage 2 chop saw its OK dosent cut entirely square but not by much so I can generally live with it the multiprocess blade I think is the culprit, got it a metal specific higher tooth count one, still got too dig it out and fit it and try I like that and see if it solves the problem. Have a small starret battery porta band was a £100 in thier offical ebay store sale its a cracking wee machine and so much quiter.

Find out how much supplier charges for cutting. Didn't someone say recently that Brundles charge 50p a cut or am I dreaming ?

Just to bring some closure to this thread, firstly I got the job, and secondly, I popped into Machine Mart yesterday and came home with this:



£300 well spent.

Not yet. I still have the other side of the wife's shed to build (well underway, should be finished tomorrow) and then I'm collecting the steel on Wednesday. So I'll probably start cutting on Sunday next (Thursday and Friday are granddaughter-sitting days and Saturday is recovery day!).

Hi John,

Very good point. I don't tend to start any activity outside on a Sunday until well into the morning, usually taking my cues from those nearby with their petrol driven lawn mowers and 10 square feet of lawn!

Ironically, the nearest neighbour to my shed is a retired Bishop. Or at least he was, he sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago after losing his 5 year battle with the big C. Such a lovely man too.

I'll not be doing any of the metal cutting outside though, I'l do that inside with the doors closed!

Just had a quick try with it (I couldn't wait!) and by 'eck, it ain't bad at all!!! Cuts quicker than I expected too.

Yeah, I'm now leaning towards getting the 355. In fact I've just mailed Evolution to find out the difference between the S355 and R355, aside from the blade that's fitted and the colour of the handles.

If anyone's interested, I had a reply from Evolution this morning explaining the differences between the S355 and R355 apart from the blade that comes fitted as standard. An abridged version of that reply reproduced here:

'The R355CPS will only take the Multi purpose blade and the steel blade cannot be fitted to it due to the base of the machine only being pressed steel. The S355CPS has a cast aluminium base and is a lot more heavy duty with it being a steel cutting saw therefore it will take both blades. Then there are other subtle little differences like the S355CPS has a quick release clamp for fast installation and removal of work pieces.'

what you have you can multi tube cut them

heres a vid for you to think about how to clamp them using a thin blade chopsaw

I took that idea and adapted it, works a treat.

works with box section as well but there better clamped in a diamond shape same as above
