FIL bought a lathe from a lady, her husband had died.
She showed us 2 similar sized locos, all built from scratch by her late husband. Incredible attention to detail. The larger one,, same gauge, was a full on king class.

I've got an LBSC Titch (little 3.5" gauge tank engine) that my dad and grandad built between them way back when. My Grandfather went on to build several others that he ran on the track at a local park. He also built a steam wagon and assorted other small live steam stuff.

He needs to get in touch with his local model engineering society. They'll have a boiler tester who could test it and issue a certificate. They will know where the local track is and likely have someone whi can teach him to drive it. Chances are if his great grandfather lived in the area they will know the loco and will likely have been friends of the old fella.

Has anyone any idea on where i can find plan/or a cheap kit. It is a present for xmas for an uncle who's wanting one to build.

I love scratch built models, the patience and skill is something to behold. And the thread about scale welding in the TIG forum made me think of the model from this thread. This is a 1/9 scale Hi Lux.

The thing that bothers me about RC cars is the scale is never realistic, the speeds are not to scale etc but the RC crawling community seems about right - it all works to scale.
