what do you need to know, our dad had some bsa industrial enginesThat's a shame, I've got one and I was after the spec, there's very little about them on the net.

It's likely the notched crank bolt found its way on there as a legacy of the petrol lump the 2.25d was based on, and had no function on the diesel other than to hold the pulley on - its apparent use as a cranker was just co-incidental.Yep and almost completely pointless on the 2.25 d jumping on it dosent even apply enough force to get it going tries as the starter packed up on mine the day i started the restoration.

You use the notched bolt to drive a capstan winch, more likely why it’s still on the 2.25dIt's likely the notched crank bolt found its way on there as a legacy of the petrol lump the 2.25d was based on, and had no function on the diesel other than to hold the pulley on - its apparent use as a cranker was just co-incidental.

That works, certainly, but when you really need it to be there, you find that some engines don't have it.I've used it for turning the engine while setting the tappets using the old "rule of nine"![]()
Ah, straight notched. But..... undo the injectors or glow plugs, low 1st and start cranking. It’ll pull you out of stuff you’d not drive out ofIs that the straight notched one or the throw-out angled one?
