Most overprescribed drug in the country with a list of side effects as long as your arm. Not saying they’re not effective for some but it seems like one of those drugs they sell you “just in case” much like an aspirin a day many years ago.
Went down a bit of a rabbit hole reading about them when my mother started taking them a few years ago and it’s certainly something I wouldn’t touch unless I had exhausted all other options

I am on Rosuvastatin... (so is my Dad aged 91 & 1/2)

Both of us have sky high cholesterol levels of 7.8 mmol/l.

(funny thing is they are identical)

Both of us eat well - oily fish and the like. We both excercise daily - hour (ish) dog walking together - Dad even at 91 can walk in wellies in mud/soft sand up small hills or on an open beech in the wind - even in winter in the cold and rain.

Dad drinks - odd half of Abbot ale/small Scotch - smokes an odd cigar and his pipe (thou not much now). His only real vices are - fish and chips once a week and fried breakfasts. But at 91 with very good mobility - who would deny a man of his age "a bacon and fried egg sandwich" in the morning.

Even the nurse - when I take him for blood tests - she told him to his face. "Eat what you want - if it gives you pleasure - have a second serving". Then she turned to me and said "you got to get there!"

Dad is very fit for his age - but his mind is going - he is forgetful - repeats himself - struggles with any challange out of the norm'

Mother aged 90 - who has smoked hard all her life (40+ daily) - has heart failure and COPD. But she is witty and bright - has her marbles about her - like she was 20 years old.

If you supplied my parents in "kit form" - I could make one good one out of the two of them....

PPIs are another "cure" with unwanted long-term side effects. Not least of which is osteoporosis.
