static charge?

been doing some polishing today and I keep getting static shock etc.the polishing mop is fitted directly on the the motor chaft.
is there any way that I could eliminate this?
I tried a piece of wire from the motor housing to my welding bench but it doesn't seem to get rid!

I did have the mop on a spindle with a pulley/belt fitted to the motor pulley.
this did the job. but I would like it direct to the motor as it is.

You probably need to earth 'yourself' rather than the workpiece or polisher, something similar to what computer techs use, a wristband attached to an earthed piece of metal (obviously this has a flexible connection).

Visions of you strapped to the bench leg, stretching with the other arm to hold a lump of metal to the polisher....
