Starting A Tec Course Soon

Hello I am starting a tec course soon to learn welding I just need to know a few things because I am starting to worry I might have picked the wrong trade here is why

When I left school I was a mechanical Engineer ( Working with CNC machines programing)
I then got sent to tec and I found it very difficult I found the maths a bit to complicating This sort of made me lose intrest and I left the job

Now I really want to be a welder and I am now thinking that I might run into the same problem, I will also be doing basic maths and english or level 3 I am not sure but I thing I will do alright on them tests but will I have the brain to take it further in a workshop

Can someone tell me what the maths side of things are like or if you had a problem with math and made it as a welder it would be much appreciated, Thanks for reading

Hello and welcome Belfast Lad,
There will be some maths and reading but not a great deal at a lower level,most colleges have lots of help available if you're struggling with it,it would be a good idea to talk to the course tutor or student services at the college about your concerns.

Hope you go for it and enjoy it as its very rewarding and it gets easier the more you do it.

Ok cheers for the reply joe could you tell me what sort of maths is used in weldin like decimals fractions or what sort of math I want to get a head start before starting my course

Pretty much what Mr Fuzzy does as above,it might look a bit intimidating but when you start to use in a practical fashion ie setting machines and working out drawings and specs for weldments it will become almost automatic but dont be afraid to ask for help as thats what the college is there for,to help you get qualifications and develop yourself.
