My new job this month think things are going well just got to hope I pass my probation. Ive been doing various things with metal looks like im gunna be trained to be a orbital welder. What is this and is it a skill worth learning as I quite wanted to learn to pipe weld.

Hope not altho I do miss working away hopefully the company will also teach me to weld pipes and a bit of fabrication

Pipe welding does come under orbital welding. Its where the piece is rotated while being welded.

Seems overcomplicated to have a rotating torch, why not rotate the workpiece?...

Or if you have different components use a robot and positioner.....

Seems a tad expensive way to weld pipes to me and I would not want to be moving that around site

We used to build them for 24" upwards.

Well guys news on this front I may get codings for this on one hand its brill altho I feel I should at least get some mig/tig/arc codings before im in orbital welding

And the one we use is tiny its like the gun from the film orgasmo if u remember that mid nintys comidie I was young then. And it rotate s round the tube welding it to the baffel box of the boiler
