There is a minimum size for the narrow end of the tread, it can't run to a point. It used to be 50mm, then went to 70mm but I'm sure it's back at 50mm minimum.

If you're not worried about regs or it's different in Ireland than please ignore my post.

So i started Friday evening, made fastening plates, main spine and welded the box uprights to the flat for the 9 threads after the landing, will weld them to spine tomorrow and them see what way ill go about the landing, going to use 2 stainless carriage bolts for each step with 4 coach screws. Didnt do a deal on a press drill so thanks to Johnny Max and his pillar drill for drilling

When you weld all the treads/box on, mind it doesnt bow too far... my one needed straightening afterwards.

Not trying to be a wise ass but you will be able to get it into place afterwards?

Looking good so far.

To fix the treads I used threaded inserts in the timber then stainless button bolts. If you intend removing the treads often (i.e. to paint the walls) the coach screws won't hold as tight 3rd and 4th time around. Also, with the machine thread, once loose you can remove them quickly with your fingers.

Id prefer not to end of striaghting the spine , so may be carefull with the heat thanks Hitch. Just tacked up the 9 threads today want to tack landing on next then will take down on a few beer kegs to weld up. It wont be easy to get in place but not impossible , will horse up the scaffold outside go through balconey door go through a few rooms and then drop in place from upstairs . steel toe boots will be a must : , im fastening the timber with 2 10mm stainless button bolts and 4 coach screws

All welding done all cleaned up ready to spray , bought a new 2.5l tin of Glimmer Panzer , came to 85 euro ex vat posted to ireland but it will look the job.
All the the stainless carriage bolts and dome nuts arrived so hopefully it will be put into place soon. You even get a sneek peek of my landrover , got a bulkhead and tub on to work out rear crossmember location had to chop off the back of the chassis

Looking good Rob. Bet it will be a challenge getting that in place.
Whats the glimmer paint stuff about then, some kind of metalic finish?

Did you get any trouble with the spine bowing once welded?

The glimmer has a light metallic effect leaving a nice wrought iron colour. I need to make a two entrance sliding gates soon and ill use the glimmer there too because it can be directly put onto galvanize. I dont really like black. The spine looks straight to me i really took my time welding it up and let it cool after every weld.

4 lads to dog her into place. but its in now with no damage done need to cut the timbers and make the first step that bolts on

Timber to wall gap ? just leaving a 40mm gap or so each side . The dirt can then fall through . l think it looks better then tight and theres lighting going underneath . Just need to add a nice rope handrail.

Who did the drawing/ design for you planning on makeing one for my own house looking for some advice on steel sizes and angles etc
