Basically what we have now is the staircase modeled on the bench negating the need for protracted manufacturer on site with all the risks and hassle involved
Still it's not bound yo fit when your on something so random as a stone staircase inside a cottage. So it's off for a frame checkout on site before I fit all the spindles and such pm
Not being critical here, but I guess in a way I am, but I would like to know!
The scrolls you are fitting for in-fills there, do you round the ends on the scrolls off any time , or leave them as is? I appreciate they get coated and probably painted but would still have thought the square edges would be sharp to stub a toe against. I am assuming it is a home environment and not business from the pictures so could just imagine bare or socked feet going up and down there.
Adrian your looking at the experimental one below all fitted scrolls on this have fish tail ends
You need to play around till you find one that looks and fits right. The one you see unattached didn't work. I settled on 620 string and two even scroll ends on an s type
Never might I radius / fully round the ends though more likely to point them. Imo very 1970s I try for 1910 with modern gear and ways
I do hit all parts with a file as regards sharps though
Yes that's the pointy ones in the lower picture. Fishtailing is basically flattening the end out like a fish tail. I don't always put the chisel grooves in though as it's becoming a bit common and can look too well " produced" this is going in and old cottage and needs to look authentic - you won't find many chiseled fishtail ends in this sort of home from original
