I did a little arc welding some years ago but purely dabbling. I now need to make a lot of welds joining pieces of stainless steel about 8mm diameter. I need to make about 300/400 joins. Pieces can easily be clamped and held horizontally. I dont have details on the grade of stainless, all I know is that it is ex food industry stock. I don`t even have a welder at present but I can borrow one I`m sure. Can anyone advise on the type and thickness of rods and the current?

hi,you will need a machine capable of 150A minimum.
As for type of rods,you really need to know the type of material and match the rod specs accordingly.

If it's food industry then the base metal is probably 316.

So a bunch of 2.5mm 316L rods and a set that can run at 90A on a 100% duty cycle will do you.
309 will be cheaper and still work, and ideal if the material might not be 316.
