The originals I purchased were supposed to be 304.
I've done a bit of digging, a part number on a box they were supplied in led me to these:

Looks like the same thing (in a mounting bracket) but that supplier states they are 201 and even says "not for use in damp environments"!
Also found these on ebay,
Again, bit odd, seller claims they are 316 but 'have been incorrectly fitted with steel bearings' so they are "not for use outside" either...
Anyway,
I originally paid £11.50 each for something that I thought should be suitable to use on a bbq sat outside but under cover.
I wasn't expecting a top quality product for that price but I was expecting it to be made from what they said it was..
I'm not slagging off any suppliers yet as I have not got the original ones back yet so I have not given anybody an opportunity to rectify the issue.
If I cut 48mm 316 down to 25mm or so (to allow for my un-square saw) its just under £3 per blank. Budget stainless bearings are just over £3 a pair (can't find any decent ones?) That's in the low quantity prices I am ordering at.
So that's £6ish to start.
If I was ordering thousands I might expect to get them made up for £5.50 but I wouldn't expect that for a low-volume custom order.
But I don't think I was being stupid thinking I could buy stock items in 304 at £11.50 each or was I??
The £11.50 cost of the originals is irrelevant though as those were not what they were supposed to be and I'm not convinced I can actually find 316 ones at all now...
The annoying thing is, I designed the machine around available stock parts for ease, and I'm now in a situation where I need to order 'custom' parts to replace them. I'm still learning I suppose
I would have tried to make them myself but although I have a lathe I don't have the time on this one. I probably don't have the tooling or the skills either.
I can make a rough guess on how lkng it would take me and hence a rough guess on what it is worth paying to have them made for me.
In my first post I did say i can send a drawing if someone wants to give me a price.
I didn't ask if anyone could make them for a fiver each.
Anyway, thanks again to this forum as I now have some replacements in progress.
I'm happy with the price given and I'm supplying the material so it's my own fault now if they rust again...
